A Prayer for the Burden-Bearer, Carrying Everyone Else’s Weight

You don’t have to carry the weight alone.

Each of us in the marketplace carries weight.

Not only our own and our loved ones, but the weight of the business, of clients and staff and vendors.

And we do this while seeing through a glass darkly. It can be hard to know the right thing to do.

I find that sometimes I need to pray the burden-bearer prayer, taught to me by Workplace Prayer Advocate Cindy McFaden, who, I think, got it from Elijah House.

Prayer for a Fresh Start
Lord Jesus, I thank you for being our burden bearer. Lord, today I want to start anew in my burden-bearing gift. I release to you the burdens that I have carried on behalf of others up to this day. Lord, redeem this gift in me and teach me to operate in it properly, so that I will not be overwhelmed and confused anymore. Lord, I want to use this gift to help others find the freedom, healing, and joy that is found in you. Teach me to be sensitive and to be able to feel in my spirit within my relationship with you, for that is where being a burden bearer is most effective—and powerful. Amen.

I keep this prayer as a note on my phone, and use it as often as needed.

The weapons we use for the fight are not merely human; they carry a power from God that can tear down fortresses! Thank you, God!
