When God Hasn’t Answered Yet

I think it was a Steve Backlund book that said that one of the lies that we believe is that because God hasn’t answered this request, surely he’s not going to.

Is this one of the reasons that in the scriptures we sometimes find time stamps?

In the book of Judges so often the Midianites (or whoever) had control over the land for 7 years, or 40 years, until the Lord raised up a judge who could come and help the Israelites defeat their enemies.

Or God told Abraham that his people would be enslaved in Egypt for 400 years. It took a while before Moses was raised up to help them leave for the promised land.

Or the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years, who spent all she had.

Or all the people Jesus healed who had been born blind, or born crippled, or been banished to the outside as lepers.

Or Zechariah and Elizabeth, parents in their old age. Like Abraham and Sarah.

Or Anna who had been married seven years, then lived as a widow until she was 84, or Simeon, who would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Not one of them would have had much reason to think, “This day is going to be the day of transformation.”

And yet … they all experienced that day. I suspect this is part of the reason for the frequent record in the scriptures of the long wait before the answer comes.

Lord, these people did not assume that just because you hadn’t answered already, that you were not going to.

I appreciate the reminder that just because something didn’t happen yesterday doesn’t mean that it won’t happen today … and if it doesn’t happen today, you are also in charge of tomorrow.

For the places where we need to hold on to hope, may we hold on to hope.
