We Prayed About Selling the House—Then This Happened

They prayed, named a crazy price, and the house sold immediately—for more than they asked, with months to stay rent-free.

One of our clients realized that, as their children grew older and moved out, they didn’t need their large house.

After praying about it, the husband came up with a dollar figure that the wife thought was crazy, but they put the house on the market.

It sold almost immediately.

For more than they were asking.

The buyers offered a nonrefundable earnest payment: money simply given to them, whether the buyers took the house or not.

The house sold in March, with an early April closing date.

But the buyers didn’t want to move in until July. So the current owners, with no idea what they were going to do next, got to live in their house—rent-free.

Everyone who heard this story, and the realtors themselves, could not believe what was happening.

For me, this story is like an extra joke from the Lord. Years ago, I had a six-week period between the end of the college year and my wedding. I needed a rental house for those six weeks. The rental had a string of leases and subleases, in order for everyone to have the summer lodging they needed.

The organizer of this complicated rental arrangement said, of someone wondering if they could live for a while without paying rent, “As an adult, nobody gets to live rent-free. You have to pay for where you live.”

Except in the case of these clients, for a few months.

Apparently sometimes even adults get to live rent-free.
