The Catch About Praying for Miracles
“There will be another in the fire" sounds great … until you realize that means there will be a fire.
When he was praying about the start of this three-week time of intensive prayer, Bob's theme kept coming up, “Miracles, miracles, miracles.”
And I wasn't opposed, but wasn’t really considering it deeply, either. (We each have our own lanes.)
Late last week I was on a prayer call with Bob about certain client situations that seemed like they were stalled.
Or maybe even worse, like trying to put a standard transmission car into gear on a hill, and it starts rolling backwards.
Bob said, “I didn’t mention this before, but one of the unfortunate realities of praying for miracles …” and as soon as he said that, I started laughing.
“It’s like the prophetic word that ‘there will be another in the fire,’ and you think ‘hooray!’ … until you realize that means there's going to be a fire.”
I had equated “miracles, miracles, miracles” with “favor, favor, favor,” thinking of it more like expansion, and truckloads of gold.
No. Miracles come in impossible situations.
The people who had been fasting for days and needed food so they wouldn’t pass out as they walked home.
Someone who died and the life of the survivors would never be the same.
The woman with the issue of blood for twelve years (imagine how anemic she would have been—apart from being ceremonially unclean, and without modern sanitary products).
Which is to say: praying for miracles comes in the places of significant need.
So if your life feels a little bit like a car rolling backward … you can pray with us for miracles, too.
Lord, you are, and always have been, a God of miracles. Speak life into the places that are dead. Speak healing into the places that are broken. Speak provision into the places of lack.
And speak encouragement to each of us in the places that need comfort and courage.
