The Best Christian Money Book I’ve Read

My friends Bob and Linda Lotich wrote the book Simple Money, Rich Life, based on the teachings of John Wesley, who said, “Earn all you can, save all you can, and give all you can.”

They add: “And enjoy it all.”

This is now my favorite of the Christian finance books I’ve read (and I have read more than average, I suspect).

I appreciate the balance between earn all you can (don’t waste your life), save all you can (don’t don’t spend more than you earn—with helpful suggestions), give all you can (more on this in a moment), and enjoy it all (enter into the full life that the Lord has given).

Different people have different understandings around tithing. I have heard Christian teachers that I respect and love on both sides of the issue (for example: don’t do 10% because you’re a steward of it all, and it’s not yours to decide vs. for only 10% of your income, you get to have God as a financial partner).

So this is not talking about tithing. Be led by the Spirit and your understanding of the scriptures.

Rather, I appreciated their perspective that sometimes we give for need, and sometimes we give for love. We can sow into ministries that are blessing you, in order to allow them to continue their good work.

I was talking to one of our longtime readers this last week. Her family had started donating to our ministry in 2022. She said, “While I appreciate the prayer coverage, really, I am so thankful for the work that you’re doing in the world, and I want to be a part of it.”

So this message is to say: read the Lotich’s book.
