Harvest in a Time of Drought

On June 20, 2023, the wife of one of our farmer clients at Workplace Prayer wrote, “We are in much need of rain and would love for you to join us in prayer for rain. Some farmers have only received 1 inch of rain within the last 60 days!

“Our agronomist is visiting today. He says our fields look a lot better than others he has seen. However, we’re at a critical point where the corn is canopying and really need moisture to yield well.”

I thought this story sounded like Isaac, who planted in time of famine, and reaped a large harvest, until he was very wealthy (Genesis 26:1-5, and 12-17).

I prayed, curious to see what God would do..

Almost a month later, on July 18, I heard the next report. 

“It is growing season and after 6-8 weeks of no rain, we received a good portion of rain which we are incredibly grateful for. Now everything is growing super fast—including the weeds! We are cultivating, ‘weed zapping,’ and using other measures to keep the weeds under control. 

“A week ago we harvested wheat and it turned out to be the best wheat harvest this farm has EVER experienced (and my husband’s dad has ever experienced in his LIFETIME)! This is a miracle of God since we have had a drought. 

“We can’t explain it in any other way than God’s blessing!”

Praise God that he continues to teach us how much he delights to answer prayer. 

Lord Jesus, be the God of miraculous provision. What you did before, you can do again. Please do. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

This is what we hope for: that, as your faith increases, we will be given a much larger space for work,

P.S. Around the same time I received this email, I had gone to Bethel Healing School. Chuck Parry talked about praying for rain. He said, “Most Christians have experienced some disappointment with praying for healing, but they haven't thought about praying for the weather to change, so they're more willing to pray with some degree of faith.”
