Do You Come Under Spiritual Attack?

A Workplace Prayer client once asked me, “Do you ever feel like you come under spiritual attack?”

It was an interesting question.

Because on the one hand: yes, of course.

In fact, when I first started praying for businesses, I felt like I needed a prayer partner to wipe me clean in the spirit a few times a week.

And yet, on the other hand, I feel quite well-protected from spiritual attack.

Bob and I practice good spiritual hygiene. Our team prays a prayer of protection, and a cutting-free prayer, every day. These cleansing and cutting-free prayers are powerful and effective.

Bob and I have a weekly prayer shield call once a week, where powerful prayer warriors pray protection over our organization, and speak words of life and hope into us in beautiful ways.

In addition, Bob, as the managing director of Workplace Prayer, has a separate prayer shield for him and his wife, a group that has been ongoing for several decades.

I, too, have a small group that I email weekly.

I have a weekly call with my healing prayer person.

Also, because of our teaching and leadership, both Bob and I have people in our circle of influence who pray for us on a regular basis, and write to say, “I’m praying for you,” as the Lord puts us on their hearts.

Bob and I pray together daily, and so we keep an eye on each other’s spiritual well-being. (When you pray with someone regularly, you know when they aren’t doing well.)

Both Bob and I have been trained in deliverance prayer and healing prayer, and we fast on a regular enough basis that we have full confidence that anything that might be trying to drag us down will not succeed.

We are surrounded by concentric circles of protection.

And from our place within circles of protection, we also pray protection over our circles of influence.

Which is all to say: though we do recognize and occasionally feel the pressure of spiritual attack, we also have taken seriously the need for a strong group of prayer warriors to cover and protect us.

This means that when our clients come to us with their burdens, we welcome those burdens, and we give them to Jesus. We do not ever receive these requests as burdensome, but rather feel so honored to be permitted to share in our clients’ journeys.

As a team, we stand with our clients for whatever it is they are facing, but we do not carry the weight any longer than would be appropriate.

We give it to Jesus as quickly as we can, because he is stronger.

We are honored to stand in the gap.

But we really do just stand in the gap.

We don’t try to fill the gap.

That would be far too heavy for us.
