A Prayer for Courage to Set Healthy Boundaries

I had the privilege of attending a pop-up conversation with some of my favorite people, Adam Brusa and Michelle Deuz, talking about the importance of healthy relationships. Their talk was timely and beautiful for me, on the topic of treasuring the relationships that we have. 

At one point they broke us into groups of two, where we each talked about what we appreciate generally about relationships (an interesting question to consider: what do I like?!). Then we each prayed this prayer over the other person.

I have prayed it multiple times since. I think it's a magnificent prayer, and I invite you to read it over yourself, read it over your family, read it as often as you crave it. It’s a good one! (I like to read it slowly, thinking about each phrase.)

I bless you to have relationships that honor your heart, your calling, and your future. 
I bless you with courage to set healthy boundaries, 
wisdom to manage your energy, 
and grace to walk with people who help you become who God made you to be. 

I also adjust it to ask the Lord to bless me. 

Lord, please bless me to have relationships that honor my heart, my calling, and my future. 
Please bless me with courage to set healthy boundaries, 
wisdom to manage my energy, 
and grace to walk with people who help me become whom you, Lord, have made me to be. Amen.
