A New Thought on a Father’s Rejoicing

A verse in Proverbs, read with a different Father in mind.

Once, in the book of Proverbs, I noticed again and again the statements about listening to your father.

• 1:8: My son, hear the instruction of thy father.

• 3:12: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

• 4:1: Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

• 10:1 and 15:20: A wise son maketh a glad father.

• 23:22: Hearken unto thy father that begat thee.

• 23:24: The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

That is all lovely and good.

Nearly at the end of the book, in Proverbs 29:3, I gasped in amazement.

“Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father.”

I must have been thinking at that time about how God is our Father, because suddenly my mind finished the sentence differently: “Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father in heaven.”

How fun to reread the scriptures about fathers, thinking of God the Father, too.

How beautiful to think that when we act wisely, God rejoices.

Father God, thank you for your great love for your children. May we love wisdom and walk with you. May we listen to your instruction. We cry out for wisdom, Lord! Bless us with wisdom today.

May you stand perfect and complete in all the will of God,

Amy Joy
