Sherrie Moore, who started the Richmond International House of Prayer, told this story at a conference.

> One night the Lord woke me to pray. And you know how he never really wakes you at a convenient time? Maybe it’s 3 a.m. and you just went to bed two hours ago?
> So he woke me, and I said a phrase or two in tongues, hoping that would be enough. And I dropped back to sleep.
> He woke me again. This time I prayed maybe four phrases in tongues. And I dropped back to sleep.
> The third time the Lord woke me, my husband said, “I think the Lord wants you to pray. But do you think you could do it in the other room?”
> So I went out and sat down and said, “Okay, God. What do you want me to pray about?”
> Silence.
> “Come on, God! You got me out of bed! What do you want me to pray about?”
> Suddenly I was in the living room, but not in the living room. I was in a protected place.
> “This is the secret place. I want you to know that it’s real. And also that it is so secret that the devil doesn’t have the right to even look into this place.”
> This is where we dwell.
> “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).
> So why doesn’t it always feel like that’s where we are?
> I think of it like this. A ball of clay is put into a cup, and the cup is put into a larger pot. Colossians 3:3 tells us, “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
> You are the clay, in the cup, symbolizing Christ, and the whole thing is in the pot, symbolizing God.
> So you are hidden. But the top of the cup is open. There is still some access.
> I have started to say, “Devil! You have no right to take advantage of my weakness!”
> Sometimes things happen because we lose sight of what we have.

*Lord God! Thank you that you give us a place of protection, where we can be so hidden that the enemy can’t find us. Thank you for faithful people who go before us, who share what is possible. We want more of you. We want more of your protection, more of your grace, more of your Holy Spirit, more of your love. Amen.*

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you,

Amy Joy
