- Description: Stuck at a red light and getting frustrated? Two true stories — one about a traffic jam, one about a deer — and a simple habit that turns delays into prayer.

Jenny shared this wonderful story with me, and it was too good to keep to myself.

## **Praying at Every Intersection**

> I was stuck at an intersection due to the sheer volume of traffic for what seemed like an eternity. I was getting a bit frustrated.
> The reminder to “be still and know that I am God” came to thought rather forcefully.
> When I stilled myself, I remembered that He puts us right where He wants us. This raised the question, “What would you have me do for Your children, my ‘neighbors,’ right here and now?”
> It was to simply pray over each driver and passenger passing by.
> The minute I accepted this direction and acted on it, the traffic cleared (and so did my attitude).
> But the lesson has stayed with me. Each intersection I approach now I try to take as an opportunity to see not as an interruption to the flow of my day, but as an opportunity to bless and to pray.
> Funny how the red lights seem shorter this way!

I love this!

Some time ago, I decided that, whenever I felt foiled in my attempts to get somewhere in the shortest amount of time, I would tell myself, “Amy, you don't know what the Lord has for you. Maybe if you had gone at your speed, you would have caused an accident. Or maybe you can spend this time in the presence of the Lord, and be less stressed. Not everything has to happen quickly.”

This might have been wishful thinking, but I was seeking to be less prone to frustration.

## **An Interaction with a Deer Proves the Point**

Then one day I went to pick my son up from work. The car in front of me on the country road was going far slower than I would have wished.

Suddenly—and I’m not making this up—a deer bolted out of the woods, ran directly into the side of the car in front of me, did a somersault in the air on impact, somehow landed on its feet, and ran off the way it had come.

One of the most surreal things I have ever seen.

I don't think the deer really did any damage to the car in front of me, and the deer didn’t appear to be hurt.

But it felt like a good and funny reminder from the Lord: “Yup, you don't know what else is going on.”

*Lord, for any way that I’m impatient or frustrated today—for any way that my plans are not going as I would wish—I ask that you would be gracious and show me where you are. I ask that you would remind me to pray as I go about my day, and that your name would be exalted in my life. Thank you that you are at work in this world.*

*We love you and worship you. Thank you for being a good Father. Amen.*

Grace and peace to you, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

Amy Joy
